dawn weight loss

I went to Angela because I wanted to feel heathy. Loosing weight was a beneficial side effect. What I also gained was a new perspective of myself, what I ate & how I should treat my body. I feel healthy and fit.

I was always the fit, thin athlete when I was younger. As my family started to grow and life got in the way my fit self started turning to a fat self. I wasn’t even aware of the change. I worked out sporadically at best for a few months at a time and then go back to my sedentary high carb eating life style. Aren’t hard candy, slurpees, and bagels low-fat.

Once I hit my mid-thirties I started to gain weight. People were telling me that it was normal to go up in weight 10 lbs per decade and I was.

I started a regular running schedule but that too got interrupted by work and family life.

In my late 30s I went to my doctor concerned about my weight  gain and possibility of diabetes. The doctor listened to my concerns and did a blood test. When the results came back he said my results were great but, I had one issue. I knew it, I waited as this kind gentleman prepared me for my diagnosis. He said, “YOU PUT TO MUCH IN YOUR MOUTH”. I got the message, so I thought and I joined a popular weight loss group. I dropped 10 lbs right away changed a few eating habits and that was that, so I thought.

I spent another 5-10 years on the weight loss yo-yo plan. You know, gain 10, loss 5… Not as fit but wanting to try, I hired my first personal trainer. I lost some weight but I was still eating poorly and went back to my old habits.

Finally, I realized I needed to get serious and I jumped on the fitness train with everything I had. By now I’m almost 45 and forgetting my body isn’t 20, I over exercised and would create setbacks from under eating and fatigue. Later that year I tore my left shoulder labrum almost completely and rotator cuff partially, another setback. A year of recovery in Physical Therapy (PT) and rehab. I asked my surgeon if I’d be able to do a pushup in a year and  he couldn’t guarantee ever. After 5 months of PT I started going back to the gym.

My friend was also starting to get back into fitness and asked me to run a 1/2 marathon with her. I told her if I could walk it and finish than I would do it. She hired Angela and I tried to go it alone. I’m still eating the same old food, still feeling fatigued when I workout.  I’m still trying with little  results. I’m was still on the yo-yo diet and attending the weight loss group. By then my weight was the highest it has been without being pregnant. Actually, I weighed more than I did when I was full term with my first son.

I had been training my way  for 3-months and my friend was training with Angela. I maintained a  5 lbs weightless and could do cardio for 70 – 80 minutes but my workout took every ounce of energy I had and I was too tired to eat afterward. Then my friend was over and she stretched and I saw her arm was cut. I saw a line and a bicep. She was energized. I wanted that.

I joined Angela’s Sexfitbody Group Training in October of 2010. She sat with me and asked me what I ate. You know the, ” Walk me through your day” talk. Well my typical eating day consisted of 8. – 10 servings of fruit, few vegetables, flavored yogurt, cheese and, a lot of pasta and bread.  Right away she cut my fruit by half. I was shocked, I thought that was one of the things I  was doing right. I still didn’t think about food the way my body did.

However,  I did see facts.

Fact 1: My friend had gone to her and was looking fit. She went from barely keeping up me to surpassing my fitness level.

Fact 2: I needed help because I was on yo-yo ride and it wan’t good for my body

Fact 3: I was fat!

Fact 4: I could not do it on my own. I might as  well trust her.

Fact 5: Here’s my favorite, I’ve been with Angela for 10 months. I did cut my fruit by half and small weight losses happened incrimentaly. Eventually, Angela helped me change my diet by adding more vegetables and whole grains. Most importantly, I learned to eat before and after my workouts. I learned to eat to live and fuel my body. I think of my caloric intake as my bodies monetary system and I count the cost.

Fact 6: I need to be mindful of what I put into my body.  The old trigger foods are still out there but now I’m aware of what I was doing to myself.

I had a friend in college that asked to stay healthy. I wanted to keep my promise. The truth is I only expected to loose a few pounds but, I wanted to feel heathy. I got so much more. I got new friends who have traveled a similar if not the exact road. I got my life back. I feel healthy and I eat cleaner than I ever did.

Here’s my weight loss graph. It shows my transformation from  yo-yo to healthy. Just the facts, the numbers tell their own story.

Thanks Angela!
